Marketing Tip of the Week: 7 Tips for Better Business Videos [Video]

MTOTW #41: Using video as part of your content marketing can help you tell your brand story or explain a product application. But poor production can detract from even the most compelling story. Here are some tips to improve video quality.

  1. When possible, film in “natural” environments. For example, an interview with a scientist is much more interesting in the lab compared to a conference room. Just be aware of sounds or sights that could be distracting.
  2. Make sure the space is clean and uncluttered. This is especially important for industries like medical devices where cleanliness is a top priority.
  3. Check your shot for photos, signs, or other sensitive information you don’t want shared.
  4. Beware of mirrors and mirror-like surfaces that could reveal the cameraperson.
  5. Avoid backlight!
  6. If you’re not filming continuously, mark the floor so that the speaker stands in the same spot for every take, and use still images in editing to avoid any awkward jumps.
  7. A memorized script always looks better than reading cue cards.
